Sotomayor Ruled to Censor God’s Word

Sunday Paper - July 12th, 2009

Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings begin tomorrow wallowed in much turmoil. Particularly, her personal views on race and sex have been heavily scrutinised. Most notable was Sotomayor’s much publicized contoversial statement in which she said “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”
As we hope that her ability to empathize with ‘the less fortunate’ won’t cloud sense of justice and furtherunravel the justice system (as she did with the New Haven, where CT firefighters, mostly white, were unfairly denied promotions because of their skin color - the Supreme Court overturned Sotomayor’s ruling in a lower court), we now learn of another astonishing, over-stepping of her bounds. Her ruling in a 2003 case, Okwedy vs. Molinari, Sotomayor ruled against a Christian group, and in so doing assumed the authority to censor God’s Word.
In the case of Okwedy v. Molinari, decided in 2003, Sotomayor sat on a three-judge panel that upheld a lower court’s ruling (from 2001) against Keyword Ministries and its pastor, Kristopher Okwedy. The ministry had purchased billboard advertisements featuring Bible verses that condemned homosexuality.
The ads were taken down after a local government official complained about their message to the company that owned the billboard, and Okwedysued both the company and the government official who wrote the complaint.
He claimed his rights were violated under the Free Speech, Establishment and Free Exercise clauses of the First Amendment; the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment; and several state laws.
The advertisements featured various translations of Leviticus 18:22, which reads in the King James Version, “Thou shall not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is an abomination.”
Posted in the New York City borough of Staten Island, the messages were taken down after Guy Molinari, the borough president, sent a letter condemning them to PNE Media, LLC, which owned the billboards.
His letter was printed on official New York City letterhead.
“As Borough President of Staten Island,” Molinari wrote, “I want to inform you that this message conveys an atmosphere of intolerance which is not welcome in our Borough.” The advertisements were taken down later that day.

People often throw around the phrase “separation of church and state,” but that is not in The Constitution. What’s said is that the government cannot establish a national religion, nor can they remove religion from the public square.
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The government must remain neutral in all matters pertaining to religion. Consequently, Okwedy and his ministry took the case to court, as his First Amendment Rights were violated.
Okwedy and Keyword Ministries sued in federal court, contending that Molinari’s statements violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, i.e., that the government must remain neutral in matters of religion. The district court dismissed the case and Okwedy appealed. A Second Circuit panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals that included Judge Sotomayor found no Establishment Clause violation because Molinari’s statement did not target a particular religious denomination or disapprove of religion.
“The U.S. Supreme Court has stated unequivocally that government must remain neutral in matters of religion,” said AFA General Counsel Patrick J. Vaughn. “Judge Sotomayor joined a summary order that said it’s okay for government to condemn the Bible,” he added. Don Wildmon, Chairman of American Family Association, observed that Sotomayor’s opinion “places a judicial stamp of approval on the comment of renowned communist Karl Marx that ‘religion is the opiate of the masses’ and further would permit a government official to say that the Bible is akin to Aesop’s Fables.” Wildmon added that Sotomayor’s appointment to the Supreme Court would have “grave consequences for religious freedom.”
Ladies and gentlemen, there is an assault on our rights as Americans. It is our duty to fight for our freedoms everyday. Educate your fellow Americans.

“Separation of Church and State” is a phrase from a letter from President Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists…basically First Baptist Church of Danbury, Connecticut. In this PERSONAL LETTER the President sought to assuage some concerns of this congregation over the government’s power to influence religious issues. As Jefferson stated, and paraphrasing, it was NOT the government’s power to influence such issues. So for the SCOTUS-ites to twist this into the current interpretation is a bastardization of Jefferson’s point.
But even more importantly…this is a phrase not from the Constitution or Statutory Law, but from a PERSONAL LETTER! So much for Lex Rex, eh?
And perhaps more important is the historical FACT that Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, WASN’T EVEN AT THE CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION!!! Remember? He was in PARIS FRANCE. Kind of hard to write a Constitution when you’re partying with the Frencies as the AMBASSADOR TO FRANCE!!
So in essence, the SCOTUS chose to take the words of a MAN over the words of the LAW. And a man who wasn’t even a part of writing the document that established the government that today tells schools that accept stimulus money they cannot even MENTION religion.
Betcha didn’t read that part about Jefferson being absent from the Constitutional Convention in the 8th grade history books, eh??
Wake up there is no god you religious wacko.
Give up your guns, jeessus and live in the real world.
You are the sort that makes this country a laughing stock in civilized parts of the world.
Religion is a pernicious force of evil , especially christianity.
Wake up and smell the coffee.
