Massachusetts Playing ‘Welfare Cadillac’

Sunday Paper - May 10th, 2009

We know that there are plenty of misguided individuals in the United States who think they have the right to healthcare at another’s expense. Well if healthcare is a right, then shouldn’t daycare be a right? Why has no one mentioned universal daycare? After all, most Americans access the ‘daycare system’ five times per week, far more often than they access the healthcare system.
When we break down the arguments of the entitlement crowd on the left, we can all see just how ridiculous their demands are. It becomes obvious that their demands infringe on the rights given to us by The United States Constitution. No other man has the right to claim your personal property (including your personal income and/or wealth) as their own.
Obama and his administration are cultivating an environment where those who refuse to produce, i.e. the ‘layabouts,’ are expecting more handouts at the expense of the hard working American taxpayers. They believe they are entitled to food, clothing, and shelter, they are entitled to the best healthcare in the world, and they don’t have to earn it, someone else owes it to them. So why on earth would anyone want get out of bed in the morning and go to work?
In addition to everything mentioned above, the ‘layabouts’ are now entitled (in Massachusetts) to free transportation on the backs of the taxpayer. But I am not talking about a free bus pass, I am talking about their very own car. And not just a car, but insurance, associated taxes, title, registration, inspection, maintenance costs, and AAA membership, again all on the taxpayer’s dime.
In his Thursday column, Boston Herald’s Howie Carr eloquently elaborates on the erroneous measure made by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.
Please, try not to let this newest handout destroy your faith in the truth of the budget crisis. You’re just angry because you can’t afford AAA. But your average welfare leech needs guaranteed road service a lot more than you do.
Don’t you hate it when you’re fleeing a department store after utilizing the five-finger discount, and the store security and the mall cops are in hot pursuit, and you jump in your Coupe DeVille and it won’t start. Damn!
Of course the gimme girls and gals need Triple-A for their welfare Cadillacs. (And yes, I understand they’re not really Cadillacs. Only the governor gets a Caddy on the arm.) You can’t expect a body to walk to the packy for their nightly supply of forties, can you?
Supposedly, these free welfare cars will enable the non-taxpayer to get a job. If they lose the job, the state comes down hard on them -we the taxpayers will not reimburse the cost of insurance after the first six months. If the client quits work or is laid off during the first 12 months, all transportation benefits end, but the client will still keep the car.
Cut to the final stanzas of Guy Drake’s immortal tune. He’s singing about this new president and his whole new poverty plan.
“Why, he gonna send us poor folks money/They say we gonna get it out here in stacks./In fact my wife’s already shopping around/For her new Cadillac.”
So now those welfare recipients, errr… those on ‘transitional assistance’ in Massachusetts are now too good for walking, public transportation, bicycles, or catching a ride with someone else. Governor Patrick believes the taxpayers need to provide them with their very own set of wheels. Will those wheels be state sponsored spinners? Are you sure the governor’s name is Deval Patrick, not Kwame Kilpatrick (aka ‘The Hip-Hop Mayor’)?
There are other questions that need to be asked. Are there any time or monetary limits for how long or how much ‘transitional assistance’ one can get from the taxpayer’s efforts? Do you think the recipients of the ‘free rides’ will be so kind or appreciative as to thank the taxpayer? Don’t hold your breath. On the other hand, I’m sure it won’t be long before their domestic partner is shopping for his or her free set of wheels.
