Obama Olive Branch Returns Iranian “Death to America”

Recently we’ve heard former Vice President Dick Cheney, informing us that in just two short months, the Obama administration has already taken steps to compromise our national security.  It was current Vice President Joe Biden who forewarned us that Obama would be tested.  And from his own mouth, throughout his presidential campaign, Barack Obama said he’d be willing to sit down at the negotiating table, “without preconditions,” with Ahmadinejad.

On Friday, Obama attempted to extend his “open hand” to Iran, asking for “honest engagement” and “mutual respect.”  He realeased a Nowruz (Persian New Year) video message showing his naivety and weakness.

The response from Iranian leadership and the Iranian people wasn’t as hopeful as Obama’s outlook.  The extending of the olive branch and the selling of the “change” mantra rang hollow.  Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei offered a swift and dismissive response, reminding, or perhaps informing, the naive Obama of the zealous commitment to Iranian ideology that permeated from the 1979 Islamic Revolution and has since only gained critical mass in the face of nearly 30 years of diplomatic isolation from the United States.  Khamenei’s demands are unrealistic, urging the U.S. to rethink its foreign policy; lessening support for Isreal and allowing the progression of Iran’s nuclear ambitions under the false assertions that the goal of such program is peaceful energy generation.

Covered in all black Muslim garb, Khamenei offered up his defiant rebuttal, claiming America is hated around the world for our arrogance while the Iranian people chimed in with “DEATH TO AMERICA…”

“Have you released Iranian assets? Have you lifted oppressive sanctions? Have you given up mudslinging and making accusations against the great Iranian nation and its officials?” Khamenei said in a speech in the northeastern city of Mashhad. The crowd chanted “Death to America.”

Khamenei’s response carried a particular bite following Obama’s important shift in U.S. tactics in his video released Friday, offering to speak directly to Iran’s theocrats rather than encouraging only pro-democracy reformists inside the country.

Despite Obama’s offer, the State Department still lists Iran as a sponsor of terrorism for its backing of militant groups such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah. In Iraq, U.S. officials accuse Iran of aiding Shiite militias whose targets have included American soldiers.

“He (Obama) insulted the Islamic Republic of Iran from the first day. If you are right that change has come, where is that change? What is the sign of that change? Make it clear for us what has changed.”

Still, Khamenei left the door open to better ties with America, saying “should you change, our behavior will change, too.”
