Sunday Paper - March 15th, 2009
In the February 22nd edition of the Sunday Paper, I outlined Glenn Beck’s We Surround Them. Well, Friday was the official unveiling and across the nation, patriotic Americans turned out in droves, banding together and committing to bring about their own brand of “change.”
Check out the We Surround Them Mosaic - created from all the photos sent in of those who believe in at least 7 of the 9 principles by following the link below.

Amarillo, Texas - Hundreds of Texans Stand up to Washington
More than two hundred strong in Amarillo, they have a stern message for Washington: “we’re fed up, you listen to us because you work for us, or we’re gonna get rid of you,” says Jan Rollins, a supporter.
And a hopeful one to other Americans: “there are a lot of conservatives that don’t stand up for themselves so I hope this will bind us together and encourage one another,” says Savanah Smith, another supporter.
The state of the economy, protecting our borders, and massive government spending have everyone here worried about the future of the country.
Joy Hutson says, “we believe in conservative values, in the constitution, and right now Washington doesn’t care. Left, right, center, they’re not paying attention.”
Robert Allen says, “everyone expects, for something that messes up, to get bailed out. There’s no consequences for decisions you make.”
The city of Rexburg, Idaho - America’s Family Community
Close to 500 people arrived at The Rex Theater to watch a special edition of the Glenn Beck show called “We Surround Them”.
A week ago a former campaign manager in Rexburg realized hundreds of people in the community wanted to watch Beck’s special program. He contacted the Rex theatre to see if they could help. The theater offered the showing free of charge to the public.
All age groups poured into the theater Friday afternoon. The crowds filled four theaters.
“I think he’s trying to take us back to the actually constitution,” said BYU-Idaho Freshman Loni Franklin.
“I love Glenn Beck and what he has to say about the 9 principles and 12 values,” said viewer Stephanie Carsten. “I’ve lived by those principles my whole life and I’d love to live in a country that has the same values.”
In Asheville, North Carolina - 275 Pack into a Holiday Inn Conference Center
Marlene Drake is frustrated and angry at the direction the country is going.
“I feel the government has let us all down by trying to control our lives in every way,” said Drake, of Fairview. “I think it’s time for people to stand up for their rights.”Drake attended a local gathering Friday to watch a Fox News broadcast hosted by nationally syndicated radio talk show host Glenn Beck. About 275 packed into a conference room at the Holiday Inn on Smoky Park Highway to watch Beck on a projection television.
The tenets of “We Surround Them” include God, country, family and personal responsibility.
“It really captures the spirit of a lot of Americans in which they feel thrust into a new world that they don’t know who to trust or what to do even,” said local watching party organizer Ryan Croft. “None of them would be here today without the core elements that brought us here in the first place.”
“The power to change America’s course still resides with you,” Beck said. “You have the power.”
Although Beck conceived “We Surround Them,” Croft said the group does not consider Beck its leader.
“He did give us hope in a sense. He touched on the hope that’s in each one of us,” Croft said. “We’re not following anybody. If we’re following anybody, it’s our heart and God that resides in our hearts.”
Brevard resident Dan Denslow said there is an increasing distance between the people and the government, which he believes has increasing control in everyone’s lives.
Melbourne, Florida - Hundreds Hit the Mighty Mushroom, Flood the Parking Lot
Inside the restaurant and outside in the parking lot, people rallied at the Mighty Mushroom restaurant to watch talk-show host Glenn Beck unveil a plan to “renew America and recommit to America’s values,” the popular talk show host said.
Hundreds of Brevard County residents gathered in the West Melbourne spot, in addition to three other locations in the county to hear Beck.
“We want to get out that we are not sitting back and doing nothing. We may be a minority, but that doesn’t mean we have to be silent. We still have a voice,” said Republican Barbara Chandler, 59, of Palm Bay, who attended the viewing with some members of her family.
Chandler said she believes personal freedoms are under threat, and that the government is “on the wrong path” and heading toward socialism.
Values and principles in his plan stress honesty, hard work, responsibility and courage among others.
Beck says it is time for Americans — regardless of party — to end corruption in Washington, the kowtowing to special interests and to regain integrity and honesty.
“We’re not talking about far right issues,” Lecouras said. “We’re talking about honesty, responsibility, taking care of your own children.”
The following is video from We Surround Them which includes self-made millionaire, Chris Gardner, the individual portrayed by actor Will Smith, in the movie The Pursuit of Happyness.
Let’s stay committed to the cause and make sure that starting with the 2010 mid-term elections, the left will be seeing Red again…
