In his 2006 book, The Professors, author David Horowitz outed the 101 (104 to be exact) most dangerous, radical left-wing professors in academia.  The profiles included Bill Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, and Ward Chuchill to name just a few.  In fact, Horowitz warned us that there are thousands of Ward Churchills on campuses across the United States.

Now in his new book, One-Party Classroom, Horowitz exposes the indoctrination that is taking place in our “institutions of higher learning” across the great United States of America.  It is indoctrination, not education, that occurs when radical professors teach their opinion as if it were indisputably correct scientific fact.

Horowitz points out that instruction of this type violates the core principles of the modern research university and undermines the free society that supports it.  Some of the findings that Horowitz’ research unveiled he details here:

For example, the field of Women’s Studies generally requires students to believe that women are “oppressed” and “marginalized” in America, and also that gender differences between men and women are environmentally rather than biologically determined.  In fact, the typical Women’s Studies course teaches that gender differences are created by men in order to oppress women.  But modern biology and neuroscience have established that many gender traits are biologically determined.  Women’s Studies is governed by ideologues not scholars.

Similarly, sociology and African American Studies courses teach that America’s essential character is racist.  In the words of a favored text by a former head of the American Sociological Association: “in the United States, every part of the life cycle, and most aspects of one’s life, are shaped by the racism that is integral to the foundation of the United States.”  It doesn’t take rocket science to see that this is a controversial claim that should be scrutinized and not simply presented as a doctrine that experts accept.

Furthermore, FrontPageMagazine details a more overt example found in a course description in one of the examined universities’ “Community Studies Department.”

“The goal of this seminar is to learn how to organize a revolution.  We will learn what communities past and present have done and are doing to resist, challenge, and overcome systems of power including (but not limited to) global capitalism, state oppression, and racism.  ” As the authors point out in One-Party Classroom, this is a declaration of political intent, not the description of a scholarly inquiry.  In the radical 1960s political agitators bellowed their revolutionary slogans from behind the barricades; today they do so from behind the lectern.

Horowitz has launched a campaign called “Take Indoctrination Out of Education” to remind professors that their responsibility is to teach students “how” to think, not “what” to think.  As he puts it, Horowitz’ goal is “… to draw attention to the debasement of our universities and the transformation of large sections of the country’s schools into political propaganda mills, and the growing threat to our democracy that these developments represent.”

The campaign will kick-off with a two-week tour, beginning with a speech at the University of Missouri on April 3.  The remaining schedule includes: the University of Chicago (April 6), the University of Arizona (April 7), Arizona State University (April 8), the University of Texas at Austin (April 9), Temple University (April 14), the University of Pennsylvania (April 15), Penn State (April 16), and Columbia University (April 17).
