Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski (D), after realizing that lower gas prices and more fuel efficient cars equate to less gas tax revenue, is proposing a mileage tax for his state. If passed, a GPS unit will be used to “uniquely identify and track the location of every car on the road.” I guess he’s never heard of toll roads or the Fourth Amendment.

I’d actually support a road use tax, based on milage… but only if they repeal the gasoline tax. As if that will ever happen.
The editorial comment, “It’s unlikely the General Assembly will add a new tax in 2009, during a recession.” in the middle of the article is ignorant of both the history and inclination of the NC Legislature.
