A Call to Action

Time for a Tax Holiday
Louie Gohmert (pictured above), Republican U.S. Representative from Texas’s 1st congressional district, is one of the few in Washington who seems to get it. Mindful of the fact that he’s been elected by the people and his job is to represent their best interests, he is currently drafting a bill to declare a tax holiday for the months of January and February of 2009.
If the bill were to pass, it would mean that the 167.2 billion dollars that Americans currently pay in monthly federal taxes (101.6 billion dollars in personal income tax plus an additional 65.6 billion dollars in FICA tax) would remain in the hands of American workers and not go to politicians and their corporate comrades. The two month total of 334.4 billion dollars would stay in our pockets, undoubtedly providing the economic relief we seek.
Representative Gohmert has also recently proposed returning all 2008 income taxes to the American taxpayers as a viable option for curing our nation’s current financial woes. If you’d like to impede the government’s perpetual bailout machine please log on to RedState.com by clicking the link https://redstate.kimbia.com/taxholiday and sign the petition. It is all done online and can be completed in seconds.

Let’s Hold their Feet to the Fire
CNBC’s Dylan Ratigan appeared on ABC’s The View recently and urged all to implement “Google for Government.” In short, as taxpayers we need to know who are government representatives are and hold them accountable for every single tax dollar taken from us. Although I am not a fan of The View (nor Whoopi Goldberg for that matter), I couldn’t agree with Dylan more.
Citizens Against Government Waste
Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) is a private, non-partisan, non-profit organization representing more than one million members and supporters nationwide. CAGW’s mission is to eliminate waste, mismanagement, and inefficiency in the federal government. Founded in 1984 by the late industrialist J. Peter Grace and syndicated columnist Jack Anderson, CAGW is the legacy of the President’s Private Sector Survey on Cost Control, also known as the Grace Commission.
In 1982, President Reagan directed the Grace Commission to “work like tireless bloodhounds to root out government inefficiency and waste of tax dollars.” For two years, 161 corporate executives and community leaders led an army of 2,000 volunteers on a waste hunt through the federal government. The search was funded entirely by voluntary contributions of $76 million from the private sector; it cost taxpayers nothing. The Grace Commission made 2,478 recommendations which, if implemented, would save $424.4 billion over three years, an average of $141.5 billion a year all without eliminating essential services.
The 47 volumes and 21,000 pages of the Grace Commission Report constituted a vision of an efficient, well-managed government that is accountable to the taxpayers. CAGW has worked to make that vision a reality and, in a little over two decades, has helped save taxpayers $1.04 trillion through the implementation of Grace Commission findings and other recommendations. (taken from CAGW.org - About Us)
CAGW is another way in which we can hold our politicians’ “feet to the fire.” I am particularly impressed with the fact that since 1984 every dollar donated has eliminated $9,000 in wasteful spending. For as little as $25 you can make an investment in your future, the future of your children, and the future of our nation. Please join today.

Dear Jason,
Thank you very much for your generous contribution to Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW).
Jason, right now, CAGW is in the midst of some of our most difficult and important battles. That’s why your contribution could not have arrived at a more important time. With the federal deficit hitting an all-time record of $454 billion in the fiscal year that ended on September 30, CAGW is sounding the alarm that profligate spending by our elected representatives threatens to hobble America with massive debt. Today, 37 cents of every tax dollar goes just to pay the $457 billion interest on the national debt — the government’s third-largest expense behind Social Security and the military!
Fighting daily on the front lines in the battle against government waste, we intimately know how important your support as a CAGW member is to our success. Unlike many of the organizations that push for more and more wasteful spending, CAGW neither receives, nor accepts, government dollars. Without you behind us, our efforts would surely stall, or even worse, fail. I hope that it will become clear to you that your Charter Membership in CAGW is one of the best investments you can make to protect this nation’s financial future and the future of your children and grandchildren. Again, let me say a most heartfelt THANK YOU.
Sincerely,
Thomas A. Schatz
President
